TIGER LAB VINYL launches with WICKED CITY soundtrack

Over the past few years with vinyl record sales at an all time high and labels reissuing classic movie soundtracks, collector and Tiger Lab Vinyl founder Jonathan Dobyns felt like a kid in the candy store, but he realized that there was a niche missing. “There was no label putting out anime soundtracks, and those scores have some of the best thematic melodies and atmosphere I’ve ever heard,” says Dobyns, “and that is how Tiger Lab Vinyl was born.”

Tiger Lab Vinyl, which focuses on reissuing cult-classic, adult anime scores in North America in special vinyl format editions, is coming out swinging with the WICKED CITY soundtrack, composed by Osamu Shoji. WICKED CITY is available for pre-sale on April 14 on this website. The official on-sale date is July 14.

“I grew up on horror movies, which led me to anime. It was a gateway into the most bizarre and gruesome worlds. Demons, monsters, aliens and ninjas in blood-soaked, animated fairy tales flipped my world upside down. And the scores have stuck with me for years,” says Dobyns. One of his favorite movies is WICKED CITY, a horror/neo-noir film directed by Yoshiaki Kawajiri (Ninja Scroll, Demon City Shinjuku Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust).

WICKED CITY is an electronic score filled with goth-esque pads, lounge piano lines, 80s bass grooves, and classic drum samples composed, performed, arranged, and written by Shoji.

The Tiger Lab Vinyl release is the original 1987 video animation soundtrack restored and remastered for vinyl by Heba Kadry at Timeless Mastering. It will be available on 180 gram black and wicked green vinyl with gatefold packaging and artwork created by Clint Carney, co-founder of Tiger Lab Vinyl.

Osamu Shoji is a well known synthesizer performer and programmer. He released numerous records in the late 70s and 80s filled with electronic and synth-driven disco/funk themes.
